Eating Disorders Support
Renew Counselling, fully funded by Mid Essex CCG, provides weekly therapy for those from 17 years of age onwards with, or at risk of, an eating disorder. The service is for those living in the districts of Braintree, Maldon and Chelmsford.
Eating disorders are a range of illnesses characterised by emotional and behavioural difficulties associated with food and weight. The main types are:
- Anorexia Nervosa
- Bulimia Nervosa
- Binge Eating Disorder
- OSFED (Otherwise specified food and eating disorder
Each eating disorder brings it own physical complications.
Not everyone will fit neatly into a specific diagnosis, but if you are using food and eating as a way of coping or feeling in/out of control, then you will be able to access our service.
Struggling with a eating disorder is very frightening and very isolating. The drive to manage on your own can be very strong but it may not be the best thing for you. It is important you get help and support. Through counselling, you can work with your therapist to begin to take back control of your life and build the strength to work to understand or to deal with those issues that have been pulling you into the eating disorder.
What's Involved?
We offer weekly counselling with counsellors who have extensive experience of working with individuals effected. It is a confidential service, what is discussed in the room will stay in the room unless you are at risk. We are happy to work alongside other professionals attending to your physical well-being.
