Prescriptions

Ordering repeat prescriptions

The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions are:

  • using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS App)
  • using the GP online system via the link at the top of this page

These accounts show you all your repeat medicine and dosage and you can choose the ones you need.

You can also:

Repeat prescriptions cannot be requested by telephone.

Please allow 4 full working days, excluding weekends and Bank Holidays, for your request to be processed.

Dispensary

Dispensary phone lines are now open all day Monday to Friday 8:30am to 6:30pm.

We are able to dispense your medication if you live further than 1.1 miles from your nearest pharmacy/chemist.

Please speak to a dispensary team member if you would like to find out if you are able to have your medication dispensed by the surgery.

Would you like your medication delivered to your home for free?

The dispensary offers a medication delivery service for housebound dispensing patients on repeat medication.

If you have your medication dispensed by the surgery dispensary and would like us to deliver it to you at no cost please speak to a member of the dispensary team.

Dispensing Review of the Use of Medicines (DRUM)

The dispensary is now able to conduct a confidential face to face review of any of our dispensing patients medication. This will include: drug interactions, potential side effects, inhaler technique and also any problems that the patient may be experiencing. Please ask the dispensary for more information in regards to DRUMs.

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

If you would like to speak to someone at the GP surgery about your prescription:

  • ask a member of the team to speak with a PCN pharmacist
  • fill in our medication query form.

Medication reviews

Repeat medication needs periodic reviews by a member of clinical staff - typically a Clinical Pharmacist or GP. This can mean blood tests are needed, if so these will be requested by the clinician and a request to make an appointment sent to you by a member of our Reception team.

If you have to pay for your prescriptions and have 2 or more monthly prescriptions it may be worth purchasing a Prescription Pre Payment Certificate. Details of which can be found here:

What to do with old medicines

Take it to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.

About pharmacists

As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:

  • coughs
  • colds
  • sore throats
  • tummy trouble
  • aches and pains

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.

Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
